Farming in the Northwest is a four season activity, with winter activities largely conducted indoors.
Spring
Spring
Soil preparation, greenhouse work and irrigation equipment start ups begin. Plant starts are usually available mid-April and our first cool season crops ready by May 1. Early summer crops include radishes, greens, garlic, spring onions, early peas.
Summer
Summer
Summer brings new potatoes and all the varieties of squash, early tomatoes, kale, cucumbers, beans, brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, kohlrabi, celeriac, cabbage. Also Young's famous Korean Kim Chi, Michael's salsa and pickles, eggs from our free range chickens and honey from our bees.
Fall
Fall
Tomatoes are really in season now as well as tomatillos, beets, carrots, spring planted garlic, onions, peppers, potatoes, eggplant, beans and don't forget summer fruits like Rainer and Bing cherries, heirloom apricots and summer berries.
Winter
Winter
Harvesting, storing, preserving, canning, freeze drying and dehydrating the bounty of the season last until around Thanksgiving. Root crops, fresh eggs and honey are usually still available until Christmas.
